| Home Business vs. Your Health and Wealth
by Teresa King
The net is opening countless business opportunities and dancing visions
of sugar plums through our
heads of immediate
wealth. Each day more people are becoming net marketers. As of this writing
200,000 people
each day sign up for their own domain names (yoursite.com).
Many will fail
and end up back at a secure job while others will make ends meet, and others
still will
find wealth.
What makes some
make it and others not make it? What is the key to a successful home business?
What are the
pitfalls of working at home? How does working at home threaten your health?
Is
making money
on the net for some, just luck?
This article
will cover those questions and more.
To market at
home -- you have to change your attitude. Money is not going to fall in
your hands by
building a web
page and sitting there admiring your own work. You might even show it to
a few
friends -- then
what?
Sitting at a
computer is not going to make you healthy. It may make you wealthy, but
without health
--what is wealth?
So, we change our attitude about sitting and staring at the computer screen.
We
click, we web
surf, we type - we get summoned by our e-mail. We get summoned by our instant
relay communications
systems such as ICQ or AOL Net Meeting -- and find ourselves living in
cyberland. Sitting,
typing, clicking -- we will soon find back problems, neck aches, carpal
tunnel
syndrome and
other maladies that attack us. Poor circulation, bad posture and even bad
eating
habits, as we
run to the refrigerator grab something quick to eat and eat it at our computers.
What are we doing?
Since the 1950's mankind has taken a huge fall toward ill health. It is
amazing
isn't it? Here
we are with technology at our hands and more people that have fat problems,
more
health considerations,
more doctor visits, yet we are flailing and are not as healthy as our forefathers.
The computer
world is not helping matters.
The reason for
this is lack of exercise. Since technology and financing has allowed all
of us to have
cars, buses
at our nearest convenience, far more sit down jobs and a more instant gratification
society we allow
our health to fall.
So, number one
to begin a business on the net -- we begin with routine -- we start with
a daily plan,
just as if we
were working for someone else. We set up a routine --start our day with
some
stretching,
and some exercises. We take breaks, just as if we were on a job and we
take walks - to
exercise and
get away from the computer. The key to health and wealth on the net is
self discipline.
Why do we fail
at making net marketing pay? Let's begin with facts. 80% of all "real"
businesses fail.
People buy into
a business, spend lots of time and effort and find they have thrown away
perfectly
good money and
wasted their time. But, did they waste their time? Einstein never thought
about
failure -- each
time he tried something he learned a way not to do something. Lincoln failed
many a
campaign before
he was elected president. He tried, he failed, he learned from his mistakes
and
improved his
campaign.
That is the attitude
you need in a home business. Another thing you need to do in a home business
is
announce it
to all your friends and relatives that you are seriously endeavoring to
do business at
home. You tell
them you do not want interruptions during your working hours, as you are
working.
This includes
unexpected visits and unexpected phone calls. In other words, you are working.
Just as
if you were
at a job.
No business will
make it without advertising. Not an outside business; not an online home
business.
We must spend
time advertising everyday, just as "real" business would. We delegate and
plan our
time, just as
real "job" would. And, we believe in what we are selling. Grabbing a program
because it
looks like fast
cash, is the wrong answer. When we sell, we share.
I love Dove soap.
Isn't that wonderful? I tell people I love Dove soap. Did telling people
I love Dove
soap make me
any money? No. I shared what I liked, because I like it. And when you have
a
business --
you share what you like and believe in, and hopefully others will like
it, too. Remember,
people share
things everyday without thinking twice about it. So, when you begin selling
something
and have chosen
what you will sell --you are sharing what you like.
The net is vast
as far as what there is to sell. Just about anything you can think about
is sold on the
net now. It
is convenient. I buy off the net. My stuff comes in the mail. I have saved
traveling time,
and waiting
in long lines. So you can see - the net is opportunity. And, it is here
to stay. So now we
make it pay.
No business will
make it without substantial effort. It is not luck that some people make
money. They
are busy working
hard -- they have dreams that they (attitude) expect to become reality.
Each day
they get up,
plan their day to the best of their ability, and take their work seriously.
Making your
friends and
family understand how serious you are is your first step.
Your second step
is to study and learn. On the net, there is so much free marketing advice
that you
have to wade
through it. You have to try different approaches to see what works. And,
you have to
set up your
business like any business with a professional attitude.
Starting with
free web pages seems an easy way to go. They have wizards and it is easy.
But, it is
not professional.
It takes money to make money. You don't have to spend a lot of money, but
you
do have to have
a professional web site - with easy ordering ability - that is clear and
precise and
secure. With
these words. Easy, simple, and guaranteed!
Beginner Marketers
Pitfalls are too many graphics - it slows your web pages down. The average
web surfer waits
up to 12 seconds for a page to load -- if your page does not load that
fast or faster
you will lose
your customers guaranteed.
Music -- Music
is nice, but to whom? Each person has a different feeling toward music,
and music
does slow your
web pages down, so unless you are in the music business -- best not do
it.
There are many
tips and tricks to marketing -- but I will end this with these reminders.
Self-Discipline
- Attitude -
Picking products that you like to share - Advertising - Exercise - eat
healthy and take
natural supplements
--Keep yourself organized and avoid things that waste your time, including
people. And,
remember being your own boss - you are the boss - be a good boss - give
yourself
some vacations.
